I have been using recent CVS versions of LyX, and the largest obstacle for my
using it full time, is the inability to use any formatting options with it (except
for changing the font size). For example, I can't center or bold any text.
I found out that ArabTeX uses instructions different from st

Here is a part of my preamble. This should work for you (You won't get the
chapter number nor section number.) This was required by our school's Thesis
and Dissertation Guideline.

Hmm, I don't see any options there for the max sectioning level. I only
see options for changing the min sectioning level. What I want to do is
make it so that Section is the top level rather than Chapter in the
Report class. Is there an option I can pass to Extra Options or Preamble
or something?
Hi. I'm just playing with this a little more and wondering if there is a
way that I can change the max sectioning level of a document class, like
in the extra options to the document class. Any help is much
appreciated. Thanks. -Jeff

Hi!
I have my document double space but when I have a series of "display

formulas. Can I revert to single-spacing only on some parts of the
document?
I recall that you may have to put an \itemsep somewhere but I don't know

You can use report class.
As for table of contents, I am sure you can fix that too, by some tweaks in
the preamble. I am writing my Dissertation in Report format, if you are
looking for anything like that, I can send you the preamble which I

Hi, I'm looking for a document class that is somewhere between the paper
class and the book class. I really like the paper class, but I want the
title to go on a different page, new sections go on a new page, etc. I
don't like the fact that the top level section in a book is the chapter,

did you choose
layout->document->fonts->pslatex?
or convert only via pdfl
This isn't really a Lyx problem but I am just wondering if anyone has
observed this behaviour before.
I created a PDF of a chapter of my thesis for my supervisor. I had used
the View-pdflatex and then saved the file. I mailed it to my win95
machine and viewed it in Adobe Acrobat to verify that
LyX-kinder:
Putting date{} in the preamble turned off the date in my book.
With fancy headers turned on, I set \rhead{} in Tex on the first
page and put \rhead{Harris - \thepage} on the page I wanted numbering
to begin on.
Thanks to Herbert Voss for the help!

Edit
Sorry,
one thing I have forgot to write here:
LyX writes on stderr this:
ispell: unrecognized formatter type 'latin1'
Ispell read timed out, what now?
Got pid = 972
Checking pid in pidwait
normal exit from childhandler
That's all what I know.

I have installed ispell-3.2.06 from tarball (aspell is not usefull to
me, as the Czech dictionary has incredible 61M!) and it seems to work
well in command line and together with mutt. However, LyX doesn't seem
to like change from aspell to ispell (although I did both

Switching between the windows by your favorite window manager should do
the trick -- LyX seems to be disinterested, whether the Math

Yes, just put an empty date, select the date style and put in just an
unbreakable space, so there will be a date, but wich c

Dear LyX users:
Two questions:
Can I turn off the date that is printed on the first
page of the book layout?
Is there a way to select which page the page-numbering
will start on? (ie I would like it to skip a few pages
before it starts with page 1.)

Thanks for the help.
The answer to the question of how to get a header: Harris - 1
Set document to fancy page style
In preamble: \rhead{Harris - \thepage}
