word of a paragraph, in the doc I'm currently writing, as I want the
note to align with start of the paragraph.

What determines this placement? Is it done by Lyx, or later,
by the LaTeX macros?

For a book, these large white spaces are not good.
Surely Lyx could be modified to place the figure at the top of the next
page
with text below.

When a user Copies a block of text, KLyx/Lyx should strip out all
labels. Cross-refs can maybe be left in, and they will refer to the
original
labels.

that when figures are placed on the next page, they are drawn
in the middle of the page, with nothing else on the page.
This is totally unsatisfactory.
Is this identified as a problem by the developers? Is there a plan
to fix it?
