Same things happens with more basic commands as well: alt+M f gives
the expected fraction, but places the cursor outside it, though \frac
places the cursor in the right place.

I've been trying to get Inkscape to convert my svgs instead of the
default(which gives an empty image after opening octave's svg plots)

Obviously
appreciate some pointers on how to implement this feature. I
think a simple Qt4 drawing area in a separate window should do for the
interface, and as for saving $filename_files/image$num.png sounds
reasonable.
