I cannot compile the latest lyx 1.4 source. My configuration flags are
./configure \
--with-frontend=qt \
--with-qt-includes=/usr/include/qt3/ \
--with-qt-libraries=/usr/lib/qt3/ \
--with-qt-dir=/usr/share/qt3/ \
--with-version-suffix=-1.4cvs \

that discusses using somethign called 'distcc' to speed up compilations.
Basically you run a small daemon on several machines and then use 'distcc'
instead of 'gcc',

The following patch avoids a warning like
Trying to select non existent layout type Standard
whenever loading a new file. It comes from the fact that the layout is
set before populating the combox.
I'll commit it in a minute.
