Blank removal after word deletion

Dear listmembers, I am currently using LyX version 1.0.4 as of 29th septemper 1999. When deleting the first part of a word within a sentence LyX always deletes the preceeding blank. I think I remember there has been a discussion about this recently in the list - however, is that what it is meant
