Sorry, but I do not understand the differences in the internal structure
of the Lubuntu desktop iso file and the Lubuntu alternate iso file, and
how that will affect how to select language.

I just finished testing with the alternative iso, which hasn't made any
difference and looking into it that's not surprising, it basically seems a
server iso with the preseed/lubuntu.seed doing a tasksel of lubutu-desktop,
ie the same thing I was doing manually by installing mini and then apt-
