I came a bit closer to getting Lubuntu 16.04 running on the 3,1 MacBook Pro Thanks Fritz Hudnut for pointing me in the right directions in the Mac maze. I erased and re-installed the Macintosh HD with Snowleopard. And after installing rEFIt and this time rEFIt recognises the Lubuntu install,
