Can you reach GRUB menu? To do it, you need to press several times and very
fast ESC or Shift just after the boot process begin. For me ESC works
better...
On GRUB menu, there is a "root" option, and something written after, like
"Ignore and go to command line".
On this option, you might need to
Well, I don't mind but I have no clue how to do it

Well, if you can get into restore mode, I guess you could simply remove
VMware...

Hi Israel. The links you were providing me dealing with removing catalyst
drivers and last message on the terminal during the boot is 'virtual Ethernet',
so I guess problem with VMware. I just tried to make a log file, but failed.

I'd go with Openshot. It has a really good documentation and a lot of
tutorials on youtube.
only downside: If there is not enough ram / swap it likes to crash :(
Personally I think you should go with openshot because the others are a
little to difficult for elementary level students.

On my test, I could not get the "Shockwave for Director" on the firefox
add-ons list...
I could get "Shockwave Flash" though..

I could not make it work on Lubuntu too. I installed on Linux Mint with
those steps.
I will try to find out what it is... Did you installed restricted-extras? I
guess I will try to install the flash plugin non-free

Openshot is also my recommendation. Kdenlive is more for semi professionals. Openshot should be a good videoeditor for kids to learn editing.
Openshot is best for kids and newcomers...
Kdenlive is best for those who want something more...
Blender is for those who master the thing...
Last time I used Pitivi, it was kind of buggy... But that was about 2 years
ago...

Hi Marc,
for simple stuff Openshot is really easy to use and has been pretty
stable for me. I think some years ago Pitivi was very buggy and crashed
a lot. For major things KDEnlive is very nice, but uses a lot of KDE
dependencies.
This site is a good place for your teachers and students to look

Can anyone recommend a video editing program for Lubuntu? Keep in mind that it
would be for elementary students. (see beow)
Thanks

Ok, I found "Google-Chrome" and not "Chromium-Browser" in Synaptic, and
deleted it, which freed up 184MB of disc space.
My apologies.

Yes... Google Chrome is different from Chromium...
In case of doubt, use synaptic to remove the software.

1) In order to avoid the rather large updates for Chromium, I would like to
uninstall it (I use Firefox anyway).
I have tried the following two commands, but with no joy.
sudo apt-get purge google-chrome-stable
and
sudo dpkg -r chromium
2) Also: how do I extract a tar.gz file?
Thanks,
