Hi Keith, the pre-installed version is for arm chips, specifically for the ac100 machines that can only hold 512Mb of RAM. They asked last cycle if we would permit them to have a lubuntu release, as installing ubuntu leaves little spare RAM for applications. It is them who look after it. None of u

And after all, it is SO easy to install Firefox: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install firefox :) Hope we can decide the default browser for 13.10 earlier this time. That plan was highlighted a year or even older but we didn't go further so hope we can this time :D On Fri, Apr 5, 2013 at 8

All the light distros switched to chromium because it was far lighter than FFox. FFox has been put on a crash diet and had a lot of bloat taken out of it. Currently it is better at handling low RAM instances and may well be the default for 13.10, but the diet happened too late for it to be in 13.04

zram for all, and midori if your browser is too heavy.. Also as of late, even firefox uses less memory than chromium, I've never understood the switch every light distro has made to chromium, chromium is a real pig if you watch it closely enough, each tab is a new instance. its a joke. --- C

Midori and zram will probably do you the most good. "chromium-browser. I tend to have a lot of tabs open. The actual number waxes and wanes through the day, but usually between 6 and 15. After a few are open, chromium-browser will often blank out a few and label them with the unhappy face."
