Hi Nio,
If the issues of zram cannot be fixed for our desktop installer, then there
are also much more serious issues for zram and the kernel. If Jopseph
cannot sort out the issue, I see little choice but to ask Julien to disable
z-ram. That request would weigh very heavy on my heart, Kernel freez
Interesting pespective, Phill,
I think we can live with the buggy combo kernel 3.11 + zRAM, because
zRAM can be switched on and off by shell commands. So we can choose to
use it only to enable the lower RAM machines to install via desktop :-)
in the beginning (in the released 13.10 iso images).
Hi,
If you have this bug, please take a minute and mark that you are
affected too, even if it is a small bug compared to the zRAM bug(s) and
Lance's VIA graphic driver bugs.

As zram is a part of the kernel and enabled by default, do not get crazy
about it. I had this back with kvm (virt-manager) when the fix was pulled
into the 'ubuntu' kernel from a fix in the Red Hat one. As it appears more
clearly that zram has issues, it not only affects lubuntu and *buntu but

New bug in Syslinux?
'Boot from first hard disk' restarts syslinux (the installer) instead of
doing what it promises to do.
Do you have that problem too? It not a killer bug. At that stage its OK
to shut off the computer with the power button, but I think it is a bug.

Does that kernel contain the bug-fix that Joseph Salisbury gave us?
In that case zRAM should not be used except maybe for the installer
until that bug is fixed :-/

As I mentioned on the bug report, we may be facing more than one bug. We
can only deal with one issue at a time, the easiest one to hit is does the
new kernel stop the freeze when installation is completed. Joseph has said

The outage at the data centre has now been resolved, all services are
coming back on-line. There may possibly a backlog for mail-man which looks
after all the mailing lists. Just when you thought it was quiet on the
e-mail lists, mail-man will be catching up :)

Hello Nio,
One of the Canonical data centers in London received a power failure, so
most of the Ubuntu services are down. It has been fixed now, and services
are expected to go back up soon.

Lars,
thanks for that.. can you update the bug.. there is the impossible part of
pulling in something from the 3.12 kernel. Any reports we can give to the
bug will hopefully assist the kernel team, as zram seems to fairly broken
in the 3.11 kernel.

Launchpad is down too. I had some info from the launchpad IRC, that the
servers are down and people are working on it.

Lars,
there is only an standard 64 bit kernel with the fix in it. My own
frustration levels as to why a clearly pointed out bug and fix are
wandering around in the 'needs testing' area when the actual test is to put
it into an ISO..

At this point it seems that we are trapped between a rock and a hard place.
Kernel team <> ISO team. ::SIGH:: Such frustrations led to my resigning
from various teams, I've asked a couple of people who can make an ISO with
the test kernel if they would. Other than that, my hands are tied.

I cannot connect to the Ubuntu web pages including the testing tracker. It
