i tried just about every yaboot parameter ever discussed and only have had
success with video=nomodeset and the graphics are super funky at that point.
we'll see how an install goes but doesn't seem that slow.

Yeah as long as you have internet (ethernet) having b43-fwcutter and
firmware-b43legacy-installer already installed will allow you to get the
firmware. Of course if you have working ethernet connection you could get
them with Synaptic.
It is the firmware.. that is missing.. and the firmware that
Hi Phill!
Thanks for your engagement :) As far as i know (from
linuxwireless.org) at a certain point broadcom released to open source
their codes. There are some, technical but not copyright restrictions
regarding older chips - therefore b43legacy is somewhat limited
(encrypting pswds or so (?) ).
Hi Greg,
further to my last email, the release team member I contacted stated..
1) it is up to the teams whether or not they include b43-fwcutter [1]
2) As far he was aware there are no copyright issues by including it.
I'd go along with that, as my understanding already was that they are open

Hi Greg,
as noted, the b43 is on the LiveCD for lubuntu. I guess the surprise factor
occurs when you are sat on your WiFi laptop with LiveCD working, do an
install and POOOF!!! ... no WiFi..
Once Julien has caught up on everything (hopefully over the weekend), a
discussion can be had about this s
Top posting:
The b43/b43legacy drivers require *proprietary* firmware.
Here is a tip I wrote on one of the forums, but it does require a live USB
with persistence now a days.

I know it does not address the issue at hand.

Hi UH, Ron, et-all,
I assure you guys that the b43 issue is on my list to raise with Julien.
I'm just doing some tidying up and have saught advice on the other video
driver issue that is causing problems. Please do bear with me. I have only
recently found the most likely suspects to the root cause
As i said, i could connet with usb wlan stick (D-Link DWA 140, ralink
based). And yes, the error msg indicates the liinuxwireless.org site
wherefrom should be downloaded the needed firmware. But the LiveCD is
hardly useable in the actual state. . . And moreover, as far as i know
b43 would be essent
Hi guys,
the Beta 2s of Lubuntu have been released, with the exception of the PPC
builds. They will all go back to daily builds on the next cron cycle. One
bit of good news, the nvidea driver issue is now a 'fix-comitted' and the
required kernel update will hopefully arrive soon (this affects more
Hiyas,
it seems that b43 is not being installed. I've had it reported that it
works fine in LiveCD mode (where we can see b43 there to be ;oaded) but not
the actual installations. I'm waiting to have chat the person who looks
after what does get installed to ask if this was an oversight which can
Thanks Lars that is exactly how I view it too.
