This is never the case. The device tree is considered to be part of
and provided to the boot loader by the kernel.

It has some severe limitations, and we have a much more flexible
solution now.
Please use FIT images instead (see doc/uImage.FIT/*).

That's a good question - such a mechanism is needed in several
places, for example to pass a pre-initialized video buffer to Linux

here is such reason - U-Boot traditionally allocates the log
buffer close to the upper end of system memory, so the start address
depends on the memory size on the board, which may vary.

rce u-boot supports PCIe on 83xx.
What exactly do you mean by "open source u-boot"? You don't really
mean that there are propriatary (closed source) versions of U-Boot in
Freescale, or are you? I iknow that you know that it's GPL, so I
guess that was just an unlucky phr
the driver especially in relation to the
limitations of the hardware.
Instead of removing the comment (which leaves the casual reader
clueless) it would probably better to add a sentence explaining the
one byte / one interrupt situation?

Is there any specific reson for you to use the old 2.6.24 kernel?
If not, I'd recommend that you clone the git repository and use recent
code - this will build fine with current versions of the dtc.

It's not so much the line length, IMO.
It's "Don't put multiple statements on a single line", plus
readability.
