I think the fact that transcoding also doesn't work any more may be a
clue as to what is going on here-
first attempt at transcoding: no audio
(I think I subsequently changed from ALSA/Surround51 -which worked
flawlessly on 0.25 for over a year to simply ALSA/Default)
second attempt at a transco
third and fourth attempt at transcode: once again NO AUDIO
here's a log:
