Maybe the additional risk is low enough for your needs, I don't know.
But in a business environment, I would normaly not do It.

I made the 3 devices faulty. I wonder why it's still clean
and --test says it's functionning normally?!
Same here with a RAID1 when I kill the last disk.
Additionally, when I try to remove one of these faulty devices and add it again,
THEN i get some indication that the array is not so good

Anyway, good news! After reconstruction the output looks perfect, i
tried soft failing one device and it came back just fine. Problem was
with a real failure (see first post).

I got a ghost in my system!
Ok, I'm still having weird issues and as nobody replied, I'm still
unsure how to proceed...
Here, I tried reformating (dd'ed some zeros on the whole drives),
repartitionning them.

I'm starting to think the documentation i read was very outdated, or only

with ReiserFS in the past). You can also grow a XFS filesystem live,
which is really nice.
XFS is finally much faster than EXT3 and self-defragmenting, but
that was not a concern for you anyway.
