ReiserFS version 3.6.25
The device not claimed by any active driver is a SanDisk CF
reader. The problem continues to occur even if I remove
it.
Any ideas? Suggestions? Predictions on who will win the
world series this year?

I have the same motherboard, and it works fine for me. Note the
80w cable detection. Perhaps you've got a bad cable?

Duh, mea stupida. I misread your message. You're trying to get
the Promise IDE working at 100, no? My Asus A7V133 has the 686b
which does ATA100 without having to rely on the Promise chipset,
and that seems to work fine. But if it helps to know, I've got an
A7V with the 686a and I use the P
ression that Alan backed out of
the suspected changes for ac23 but the problem remained. I
replaced it with an eepro100, but I don't know if it's the
card or what.

at gets rid of all the bizarre behavior. Apparently
that's not a kernel problem but a bios problem.

I don't know where to start with debugging, either, but I'm
willing to take instructions.
