Basically it seems that they are not working, even though ACLs are enabled for

Basically, with 2.6.24.2 (the same with 2.6.24 and .1), tha machine won't boot
due to a problem with cciss driver, that prevents to find the / partiti
hat the responsiveness of a
desktop becomes poor (say, to open a "K" menu takes several seconds on a pIV
2.8G HT).
In every case, we seen that the I/O bound processes are stuck in "D" state,
the same stands for pdflush and kswapd.

Unfortunately this machine is on a remote location, so we don't have access to
keyboard. In some days we will be able to have a report of Alt-SysRq-T, but
until this of course we can provide any information that can be gathered on
a remot
