Actually, all the the latest gcc-2.96 from Redhat produce around 10% faster
code (I haven't measured it explicitly)
Anyway, Redhat 7.1 beta 2 still got kgcc and updated gcc..
/mnt/cdrom/RedHat/RPMS >ls -1 gcc* kgcc*
gcc-2.96-75.i386.rpm
gcc-c++-2.96-75.i386.rpm
gcc-chill-2.96-75.i386.rpm
gcc-g7
Pinchas,
If you can - wait for Redhat 7.1 - which will go out next month. You can
install RH 7 today, but you'll have to upgrade lots of RPM's...

Hi All,
I just wanted to share with your some news and answering some private emails
I got regards those issues..
* VIA chipset support in kernel 2.4.x:
Starting with kernel 2.4.2ac13 - the chipset IDE's interface are both
supported (ATA 66 and ATA 100), so you can compile now kernel and boot
Better go with their NVidia driver 0.9-7 (they just released a new version of
0.9.7 - 2 days ago) - their driver will give full 3D etc..

ALSA provides a full compatible OSS layer - which means you can use ALSA with
OSS sounds. Also - you can find ALSA drivers for XMMS in xmms web site (if
I'm not mistaken)...
As for Esound.. Don't hold your breath with it. It's practically dead. KDE
uses arts and GNOME are moving to GStreamer -
I use kernel 2.4.2ac13 with Redhat 7
I suggest for you to upgrade your GCC compiler first - to at least
GCC-2.96-74. You can get it at:
http://www.redhat.com/support/errata/RHBA-2000-132.html
After upgrading the GCC - grab kernel 2.4.2 and compile it.

Yes, but it was never for free to anyone. Only sold commercially..
Now it's available as free if a person's university signs with them with the
QT University, and now you can get also a 30 days evaluation for free..

Hi,
I heard from someone that Bezeq is starting to give the Alcatel Speed Touch
ADSL - USB modems. So far this modem didn't have a Linux driver.
Not any more...
Open source driver for this modem is available here:

Hi,
There are some serious TCP/IP problems with Windows ME if I'm not mistaken...
As for getting 20k per seconds -- your best test would be to connect as a
guest for a short while to various ISP's and test them...
You should remember one thing - most of the ISP's have added ADSL support,
but,
I guess you forgot to upgrade the pppd ;)
upgrade to: ppp-2.4.0-2.i386.rpm
You can get it from: ftp://ftp.redhat.com/rawhide/i386/RedHat/RPMS
Although this is Rawhide, the RPM itself is pretty old (1/12/2000)
