In the short time since the list adds a reply-to header, we have
seen a few double messages as a result, and a reply that was sent to the
list by mistake. Is it not enough to prove that a return to normal
behaviour is necessary?

The ADSL Howto contained an error regarding the PAP/CHAP usage. As far as I
recall, it advocated using Chap, while Nezeq needs Pap.
You need to copy some line from the Chap configuration to the Pap
configuration.
