You mean you installed X11 and KDE on top of it, do you?
Use ALT-SHIFT-Fn to switch VC out of X11, then you
can use ALT-Fn to switch between consoles (X11 is
usually configured to run at VC 7).

Ctl-Alt-F1 ..F6 give you regular terminals, and Ctl-Alt-F7 gets you
back to KDE. Also, Ctl-Alt-NumPad+ cycles through the various screen
resolutions - great for getting games at the correct res!
