this happened to my brother because he asked for lilo to be installed on the
linux partition (the default?) instead of on the mbr. so i went into linux
with the boot diskette that he made during the install and edited
/etc/lilo.conf: i changed /dev/hda1 to /dev/hda at the top. and then i ran
"lilo
