When you boot the ubuntu installer - add all-generic-ide to the linux
command line parameters.

In the BIOS, there should be something about which emulation (or
whatever name they call it) the SATA drive should operate. It's
probably buried way inside the BIOS setting (peripherals?) - you
should try to set it to AHCI and then try to install, the drive will
probably will be sda.

The manufacturer has an XP dirver used in the installation process but no
Linux driver.
