Hi all, first off I must confess that this is a crosspost. I posted a
similar question to the Debian list,
Here is a picture of the rodent, the buttons in question are the two

The two multimedia buttons on the left side of the mouse (below the
Zoom buttons in the picture) work as expected, as does the four-way

How is your X configured - to read from /dev/input/mouse0 or from
/dev/gpmdata? I suggest you try to change X to read directly from
the mouse device (I'd prefer /dev/input/mice, but that's a personal
preference, and doesn't seem important now), and stop gpm.

Makes a lot of sense. APM does not fully work with my laptop, which wants
ACPI. Matters got worse in RH7.3 over the RH7.2 updates

This makes a lot of sense, as I have noticed lately that gpm has started

Well, from the details you gave, it might be reasonable to assume that
the problem is related to hardware cursor handling.. You did not

upgrading to RH7.3+KDE3.0.1, and I don't know what to blame. Sometimes, as I
am working and X is on, the mouse pointer suddenly ceases to represent the
actual coordinates of this critter (actually, i
