I tried what Shlomi Fish had suggested, installed sndconfig and run it. It said this sound module is not yet supported, it is strange since lsmod responded that there is a module named via82cxxx_audio loaded. Following is the relevant part of lsmod output: [EMAIL PROTECTED] /]# lsmod | grep snd

I recentry installed Mandrake 9.1 on a computer with VIA82C686 AC97 sound card embedded on board. Mandrake recognized it and installed module snd-via82xxx. However it still does not work. I tried the mandrake control center and it gave me a warning that I need to run artswrapper as root, I did it
