Trying to eliminate possible hardware causes, I have tried ping -fi 0
10.0.0.138 in order to stress the network card suspected to be active at
lockups (which seem to occur only if connection to the Internet is
active). No lockup happened.

Recently I have been experiencing very frequent lock-ups of my PC. I
had to press the RESET button to release the lockup. When the lockup
occurs, neither the keyboard nor the mouse respond.
