Considering the following program:
#include
int main(int argc, char* argv[])
{
(argc < 2 ) ?
printf("Need to get an argument.\n") :
printf("%s\n", argv[1]);
return 0;
}
1. What is the limit for strlen(argv[1

What CPU (and other hardware) do you have?
Modern and fast IDE disks, with their (comparatively) primitive
controller, cause high CPU load.
I'm with a 1.7 GHz Celeron on an Intel motherboard. 256MB of RAM, almost
never swapping. A rather new hard disk.
But even if the IDE controller is a burden

I guess Eli would say it's not supposed to happen either.

Even if that was true, it's no excuse to get stuck.
And no, it's not the reading getting slower. I'm talking about slow echo

I guess journaling file systems would behave diffrently from those which

I just tried it. It happens here as well. I have Mandrake 9.1, kernel

Hello all,
I have addressed this issue in the past, but never got to really solve
this. And it's annoying me again.
I'm running RH7.3, with a 2.4.18-3 from-the-box kernel, which in my
opinion doesn't meet a basic requirement to be called a multi-user or
multitask OS.
The thing is, that when I

Hi!
On my Linux hard-disk I have two reiserfs partitions and a swap partition.
Recently, the first partition started causing noises of bad blocks when I
used it. It came into being that ls'ing /usr/lib caused it to emit various
bad hard-disk errors.
I switched the root filesystem to the second p
An inherent theoretical security disadvantage is the reliance on a closed
system - who knows what the manufacturer forgot protecting against (or
intentionally left unprotected).
The bigger problem, is that with Alcatel ADSL ethernet modem this is,
supposedly, no theory.

Hello,
Has anyone here configured his Alcatel ADSL ethernet modem to use
its firewall? Is it worth it? Are there any disadvantages over using
the Linux firewall?
I find this option very appealing if I could make my Windows machine
less dependend on my Linux machine, as the Linux happened to sto

Hi,
We discussed this matter in the past, that AOL decided no longer to accept
mail from servers that relay mail freely or have open proxies. The funny
thing is that I am on a private network, and should therefore not be visible
to the outside world, definitely not as a mail server. So, am I ri
