Actually, yes. Try to change the port on the hub, ie stick it into another
connector. Sometimes there is a "noisy" port which does what you describe.
If that doesn't help, try to play with cables, look for loose wires, try to
replace network card.

I just finished setting my linux for printing: installed Ghostscript, LPRng,
a2ps, and psutils. (Note that I'm using an LFS system, so I had none of these
