I recently upgraded to Linux Mandrake 8.0 and since then my printer (an
Epson Stylus Color 740) stopped working. I could not get it to work
whether with lpd or with cups, no matter what I tried.
I am using whatever shipped with Linux Mandrake 8.0. My printer is
connected to LPT2 (/dev/lp1).

Port attack? What exactly are you referring to, portscans?
Portsentry can deny on the fly hosts which portscan you. I am generally
inclined not to use portsentry, as port scans can easily be spoofed and
thus making a DoS attack against your host very very feasible.

It's completely normal. High mem usage is a result of memory being used by
I/O cache or more correctly by something called buffer_head cache. It works

If you use Mandrake, you can branch to it in DrakeConf.
