I'm sorry to hear that, mainly because the problems mdk made reminds me

First, running many things together _SHOULDN'T_ cause any problem, except
of slowing the computer!!! It's not windows with the blue screen of death!

You seem to need ssl library (openssl ?).
Maybe you can ./configure it not to use ssl, try ./configure --help | grep
ssl or something.
