i got this poweroff problem too, havent found a way to fix it yet.
about ur 'weird' messages at boot time,
do you use modules? if not, i suggest you rebuild your kernel without
modules support, it should take care of the annoying messages.

Hi,
If any of you knows a prog for Linux that monitors BIOSs hardware
monitors (electricity, temperature, ventilators rpm and such) and can show
a graphical display of them, and/or can be programmed to take specific
actions (triggers) upon specific events, let me know.

I configured everything well...
I made also:

Maby it is related to problems with my modules? cause when I compiled the
modules I had some errors, and everytime I start linux, I get the messages:

I think that the core (oops...) of the question is very simple: There is a
difference between the Operating System as a Software to Hardware

Why would telling people to rtfm would make the list more interesting?

This is not a good idea, because you want to leave the K link too,

Can you tell me why? I don't like those GUI tools myself, but for
someone who does not know exactly what he/she is supposed to do, it is
better to rely on the control-panel and hope it will do everything

Like it or not (flames are welcome, privately), this list is getting to
sound more and more like a *windows help desk*. WTF

I suppose UNIX was a brand when it was controlled by a single company
and was immediately associated with that company.
Dear Oleg!
Using RL setups is quite dangerous... It is far better to simply move the
links... Like:
mv ./rc1.d/K49someservice ./rc2.d/S33someservice
It has the same effect, but is cleaner and safer.

RH assumes you don't want to run a DNS server on your box by default,
which sounds reasonable to me.

IIRC bind-8.2.2_P7 is out and corrected some security bug. Update!

Dear Aharon!
Named has to usages... If You're using the caching nameserver, than named
shouldn't be running, and this is fine. But if You're willing to do some
real resolving on that machine, here is the list of runlevels for named:
/rc3.d/S55named
/rc4.d/S55named
/rc5.d/S55named

I just installed RedHat 7.0 from scratch.
I included the package bind-8.2.2_P5-25.
I see that named is NOT being started at boot time.
I see the following files:
/rc.d/init.d/named
/rc.d/rc0.d/K45named
/rc.d/rc1.d/K45named
/rc.d/rc2.d/K45named
/rc.d/rc3.d/K45named

A couple of questions for those of us who has an ADSL connection to the

Is it possible to run a server on this connection ?
can you easily detect your external IP from linux ?
