A good reason to use 32bit UID would be to match UIDs with other systems
that use 32bit UIDs (like Novell NDS). Otherwise one has to keep
translation tables or use a translation algorithm or something else not so
good.

This is not the case with my Debian Linux.
I tend to think that it is also an ELF executable on other distros.
