You can forward the control channel just fine.
You just need to take of it on the client side, you don't need
(and have no use of) having it answer remote redirect requests.

Lucent LTmodems are supported - via vendor - supplied drivers.
The same for PCTEL modems.

what they might have found to be slow was the domain resolution time,
not the actual access to the site. I have brought up the issue with YBA

Just tried fetching RedHat 6.1 ISO from our FTP to
a US site linked by UUnet. Reached peak of about 90kb/s.

Hi Miki,
This cannot really work. The ftp protocol requires some more
connections and ports (20 aka ftp-data) to be forwarded in the other
direction.
What's wrong with a simple scp ?

Ooh, thats easy :)
Look for PC-Tel chipset based PCI modems - these are hardware modems and
all you need to do in order to use it - is to use the command setserial,
and presto - you're ready :)

I'm using Linux on an AMD processor (K6 266 oc'd to 300), and I know
of other people that do. What are you looking for?

The system will not let you telnet nor ftp as root. This is a security
feature (I am not sure what it secures, but so be it).
I think the best way for you to do this (also in terms of security) is to
install OpenSSH. It is free, support both versions of SSH (1 and 2), and
works great with Linux.

Has someone experienced Linux on PC with AMD Processor ?

HI
I'm looking for a PCI software modem that I can buy in israel and that is
supported under linux but not kernel version specific ( i.e.
it will not stop me from upgrading kernels)
any ideas ?
thanks

Consider yourself Lucky, you have support for this card
Goto the linmodems web site: http://linmodems.org - and download the
Lucent driver..
Read the instructions, install and use it - it works perfectly well here

I am now holding a PCI card by Aztech, with Lucent chips. How am I supposed to
know whether it is a winmodem or not (except the obvious - put it in a
computer)?
I went to the Aztech site, and they don't say anything from which one may
understand it is a winmodem, but what does that mean?
The problem is not PCI , the problem is with winmodem. ( most pci modem are
win modem
but not all of them). there is limited support to some of these modems. I
think that the lucent
modem is supported under linux.
