At the initial LILO: prompt tell linux init=/bin/sh and it should work.
Here "linux" is your kernel name.
Also, you can go to another machine, make boot disk

At the LILO prompt: linux init=/bin/bash rw (assuming you have
labeled it 'linux'). Or you can try 'linux single'.
