The \set fingeringOrientations command is a chord-only command.
It does not work for notes outside chords. So you need to place
< > brackets round the single notes too.
I recently rewrote a section in the Learning Manual to clarify
this. See Fingering in Section 4.4.2 Within-staff objects.
