i just upgraded to version 2.8.1 from 2.4.5 , which is the last
version on fedora core 1 (planet ccrma packages). i removed the ccrma
2.4.5 package, then installed the new one using the installer from the
lilypond download page. i noticed that the 2.4.5 rpm installed to

Hi, I'm using Lilypond in Windows ME. Actually, I never noticed that the
size of the PDFs are big, usually they're much smaller than the PS. I also
have ghostscript 8.50 installed in c:\gs\gs8.50.
Here's what I got:
C:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM/GDI32.dll

C:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM/USER
Please read the instructions for lilypond-book in the new manual!

Should I uninstall 2.6.5 first?
I'm thinking I should, then install 2.8.1-4 (for Win XP Home), then run the
convert function on my source files.
Anything else I should know or do?
Thanks!

after going back to the manual, i can't find anything that addresses
this particular problem. using --psfonts in the lilypond-book call

You need both the flag --psfonts to lilypond-book and the corresponding
flag -h ... to dvips, as described in the manual, to get the musical
font into the Postscript file. Note that
the note heads will not show up in your DVI viewer.

You will probably need some other MIDI tool to postprocess the output
of LilyPond. LilyPond itself does not have any such support
builtin, as far as I know.

I post this with the hopes that it will prove helpful to someone.
I run on a Gentoo Linux system (thanks to whoever picked up the maintenance for the lilypond ebuild! When will I see 2.8.1, btw?) and ran into a simple issue that took a while to
if you used tags or \book to create two separate midi files, could you
either tell timidity to play one with the left channel and the other
with the right? or would you have to take a further step and combine
them into a third, stereo midi file?

Here's how to get Lilypond 2.8.1 installed from source in Gentoo... it
isn't hard. This includes installing a patched version of Ghostscript
8.53 (which under Gentoo supports the hl1250 printer driver in addition
to the standard drivers).
1. make sure PORTDIR_OVERLAY is declared in /etc/make.
Hello from the file below notice that for some reason a
partial 8 is used to begin the second ending I can't see
any reason why this should happen.
I looked at section 8.4.2 to see if I needed to correct
it using some kind of timing but that didn't make any sense.
So what's going on here?
Thank

You have to do a \partial on the last measure of the first ending.
