With 2.3.20 #(set-default-paper-size "letter") seems to produce correct dvi and ps but gives pdf's with the top cut off. Just setting papersize = "letter" in the paper block (which probably does nothing) leaves \def\lilypondpaperpapersize{a4}% in the tex file but I can use Adobe Reader to scale

For Windows: I recommend using WinXP, because 98 can't run python well. For editing I recommend jedit,(www.jedit.org) it has syntax highlighting and a downloadable plugin for LilyPond that makes it easy to compile and view scores. For learning I recommend using the Document Wizard of this plugi

I found out that Lilypond has troubles with spaces in directory names... I had a similar problem once, and it got away when I removed spaces from the directory names... this was under linux, but I assume the same goes for Windoze... D:\Documents_and_settings... are you sure that the spaces real
