Something as small as that won't likely make a difference, but the further
from its intended size you force a glyph the worse
Hi all,
I try to answer my own mail after having searched the internet for answers:

Going in the other direction, I took integer-valued Lilypond staff sizes, and
found examples in my personal library which matched:
8 (~2.8mm): Boosey & Hawkes full score of “Peter Grimes” is just a little
bigger (~8.5)
10 (~3.5mm): study scores like Universal’s “Bluebeard’s Castle” and Wa
Thanks Kieren,
I have some questions about the staff sizes:
1. Is there a world wide standard for staff sizes?
2. Are "Rastral Staff Sizes" always the same? I once found a different
list of rastral sizes. The differences are on the level of 2%, but I
wonder if there is some official reference.
Thanks Kieren, very interesting indeed.

Hello all,
Just in case it helps anyone else, here’s a little snippet I made up to
generate the standard staff sizes (as per Gould p. 483).
Best,
Kieren.

It's probably easiest to solve this by rescaling the Postscript file,
use the program psresize or pstops.
You could also do it in LilyPond by combining the ideas of

Hello, Mats:
Thank you for the response -- very informative and helpful!

I have to build my own fonts (e.g., 20.3259pt), or is there an easy way

The staff sizes in LilyPond are measured in 'points' (pt), which is
a well-accepted standard for typesetting. One inch is 72.27 pt,
so the size 2 (100%) at

corresponds to 4.5/16*72.27 = 20.3259 pt, which is slightly lar
Hello, all!
Is there any obvious relationship between the built-in font/paper sizes
in Lilypond and the accepted engraving standards

Thanks!
