I downloaded and installed the PPC version, which also did not show
menus after launching from the icon.
But as you indicated, it worked ok at a Terminal...
~/Desktop/LilyPondPPC.app/Contents/Resources/bin/lilypond --pdf
--output=dada dada.ly
...ran OK and produced a good
