I have resoved this issue. The problem was in the Advanced Internet Options. I
had checked "do not save encrypted pages to disc" -
clear this and all is well. Does this leave one a bit more open to malicious
software though?

On the lilypond website, go to the documentation for version 2.12 and
start with the Learning Manual. There are instructions there on how

http://lilypond.org/web/install/. This isn't anything you can open with
an editor, instead it's a program that you have to run, which in turn

Just select any download site, preferably one on the continent where
you live. When you have clicken "Next" one or two times more, you will
get to the view shown on the web page (of course the version numbers
are different know compared to when the picture on the web page was done.
