combination of sharps and flats? It is needed to notate certain kinds
of non-western modes (an example can bee seen at
http://dev.urbanninja.se/~erik/Vranjanka.pdf).

Certainly! This is mentioned in the section on key signatures
in the manual. However, to see an example of how this is done,
I recommend to go www.lilypond.org -> Documentation (for the LilyPond
version you have) -> Regression Tests and find the example
