Oh...and I am leaving the keybinding at C-c b, adding only an
electric-bar function so that | calls what-beat as well as inserting
itself.

NOTE: I am using lilypond 2.2.0...I was more interested in getting
work done than in testing experimentatl features...at least I started
off that way :)

Since no one else has attacked this problem, I figured I'd take a
whack at it. My results are appended to this message. Going to try it
for a few days & see how well it works. To use it, I tweaked my .emacs
file as follows:

you can specify durations for syllables...could I
specify the rhythm of a melody in the \lyrics context, and then just
have the melody provide the pitches?
