Wish to specify staff length and note "justification"

Hello, I want to align Lilypond notes to tabbed columns of text in OpenOffice, but I am confused after reading and rereading the spacing and tweaking references as to what is the best way to do this. Would you please point me to the correct reference or give an example? I appreciate the help. W

Lyrics to rests?

Rhythms with no staff lines but with bar lines

Hello, I want to display rhythms without the staff, but with bar lines. I removed the Staff_symbol_engraver from the context of the Staff and attempted to add the Bar_engraver to the context of the Voice. The staff lines are gone but there are no bar lines. I am using version 2.11: \new Staff

Place bar line at start of single staff
