There are so many things I don't understand. Fortunately I understood some
little things so that I was able to integrate it in the whole score. e.g. I

Thanks so much, Nathan. I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds it tricky!
I'm not concerned with MIDI output at all, so your solution works perfectly.

I'm not sure what it does, like I said I just upgraded it to be compatible

That could be a useful feature but should not me the default. Perhaps an
override such as
\override MultimeasureRest #'condense-all = ##t
would be helpful. That way the default would still be the intuitive way (2+2
gives two separate groups) whereas the other is still an option for those who

The only guidance in Gould is where she writes "Repeat 3 times" in a horizontal
bracket.

I discovered this setting yesterday. Then added it to the main layout file and
compiled some of my scores (more complex). Everything was fine. Perhaps
NoteHead.extra-spacing-height = #'(-inf.0 . +inf.0) should be set as default in

It'd be better with the text at the beginning or end of the passage.
My personal favorite, however, is putting the measures in a large
horizontal bracket labeled "3x."
