such tests succeed in my case. However upon
linking our shared lib a -lbar may fail - since
the LDFLAGS var is not used here!
And how can I specify an env var which is used
upon linking a shared lib?

which claims both to be the same. And it might be some
new info missing what to do in configure.in.
I'm using:
libtool --version
ltmain.sh (GNU libtool) 1.3c (1.852 2001/01/08 01:52:10)
automake 1.4 (with patch from libtool/README)
autoconf 2.13
Bye,
libbar will be linked against
the old /usr/X11R6/lib/libfoo.so and not the new one.
I tried moving around the compiler/linker flags, but that
didn't solve the problem. Is this is a shortcoming of libtool
or is there a way for me to fix this?

on the mentioned system (alpha linux, suse 6.x) and
not on other linux systems.
Also the bug disappeared when using autoconf/CVS.
I'm still looking forward to comments and would
strongly advice to improve documentation on that point.
BTW, can anyone give estimate
ince that '-fPIC' is interpreted as a source file obviously.
Someone else seen this?
