Hi,
Libtool drops the user supplied "-static" flag (e.g. in $LDFLAGS) from
the link command. Is this what we want? This behavior has been a
source of confusion for some users.

I wanted to let everyone know that I've found a problem when
mode=install with piecewise linking. It appears that the "right"
command is getting truncated when it's too long. That causes
the library to get created, but missing some of the object files
that are supposed to go into it.
