Unable to connect to LAN from inside an LFS system

I have sucessfully completed building a LFS 6.2 system using the Livecd (as a guest OS inside a Qemu virtual machine instance). The problem now is that I can't connect to my LAN or even to my host system from my new LFS system (running under Qemu). I tried pinging my host system's ip address but
