I will continue studying the book, asking questions and watching
eveyones else's progress. But for now I'm really burned out. I can't even
get beyond building a C compiler for the system. As someone else mentioned
rading the book in HTML is much easier that reading a pdf.

The latest LFS livecd has binutils 2.17 which is require to build
glibc-2.13 but when I try to run the configure script it tells me that the
assembler is too old? Huh?

Why does the LFS disk say the assembler is too old to be making
glibc-2.13 for the target x86_64 ? I was counting on that disk.

How do you save your work on the LFS dvd? I also would like to hibernate
my system. When I first boot the bottom of the screen says "kernel active"

Do you think this grml would be better to use than the lfs boot disk? I

This case 'uname -m' and so on text is not working for me. Where should

In using the live cd do you just follow the same directions as book 6.8?
That's the version I read. One of my prior problems was I was compiling
binutils-2.21 with gcc-3.4.6. And mpfc mpc and gmp with 3.4.6 as well as
4.6.0 with 3.4.6. I guess gcc needs to be atleast 4.5.2 in building lfs.
Well I've pretty much follwed the book word for word up to the
compilation of binutils and it breaks the enviornment can't find the ld.

Those spec files can be hard to read too. How can I get gcc-4.6.0 to use my
