Yes I have windows 7 and ubuntu running on my laptop. Grub is already installed
. I am going to try what u advised . will post the outcome after that.

I'm getting the "FATAL:" messages listed below every time I boot and I can't
find out why. There are a lot more of them but they scroll off the screen so
fast that I can't read

It sounds like you already have GRUB2 installed. Try
multiboot /boot/grub/core.img
