finally i compiled and installed Ncurses.I followed what found at this link:

Shortly the problem was caused at line 114 of the script "ncurses installation
dir"/misc/ru_tic.sh

I did indeed have all the old source directories, although, I was
compiling in a new build dir. Seems strange that the presence of the
old source for other packages would effect the compile.
The make test had only one failure.
