Umm, sorry to say this again, but have you checked out www.pkgsrc.org?
It compiles everything from source, including needed dependencies and
comes with pkg_add/r

First, thanks again for your interest and words.
I'm quickly cutting to the chase now:

My two cents.
I'm on my second installation of lfs/blfs, and this time my goal was
to expand on what I had learned before and make the system more
manageable. This included installing and using a package manager of
some sort. I considered package_users, apt, portage, rpm, and yast.

I would suggest the fakeroot approach. That approach is used by most

I forgot to mention that 2.16 will require updated versions of at
least Glib and GTK+. Perhaps other packages as

You will come across snags in dependencies, and missing packages
(2.16 has dropped some and added new packages).
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone is using gnome 2.16 as
http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/view/svn/ refers to 2.14.
I was intending to try to build gnome 2.16 just following the above
instructions for 2.14 and hoping not to come across any snags.
If anyone else has any tips they would be we

Wasn't my intention to stand for this PMS like an Ubuntu user does for
it's distro (and it was funny to read). I was only replying to your points
with what i had to say about them.
About the point you are making now, that is not the job of the PMS to
I really don't understand you.
It's Linux From Scratch - Your distro, Your rules.
It is the best freedom that have.
You are no better than all the Ubuntu users who think their distro is
the only one and interrupt to any discussion which someone
accidentally think to use in other distro.

What about cfdisk?
AFAIK no danger just in looking at partition table, just beware of
"write"
Only XP doesn't accept partions and formating by cfdisk ;-)
