the current rc1 and SVN-20081106 both require the following patch
expect-5.43.0-tcl_8.5.4_fix-1.patch
both versions use tcl 8.5.5.
as i did not compile the book but just am downloading the packages i

Just a note to both groups that the expect-5.43.0 tarball is back up
at http://expect.nist.gov/ . Here's what the maintainer had to say.

Hi,
My apologies if this isn't the proper forwarding technique from one
list to the other.
This issue has come up a few times now. I have no idea why they took
5.43.0 of the expect web site. We have to fix this issue. The link
in the book needs to be changed to a local c
e LFS
mirrors or such, and someone needs to bug the maintainer to put that
version back on the website. Also, someone should test out the new
version.

This may be unrelated, but please note there has been a screwup at the
upstream tarball site. My "upstream tarball detector" script found this:

+ [BIN]

I save you further details but I couldn't get much further.
I gave up and tried the same with expect-5.42.1 which worked perfect.
BTW, expect-5.43.0-spawn-1.patch goes in for 5.43.0, but has fuzz and offsets,
which is not the case when patching 5.42.1 with it.
